2026–2027 ANA Minority Fellowship Program – Applications Now Open

SAMHSA-funded fellowship supporting master's and doctoral nursing students in behavioral health and minority health equity. DEADLINE: June 8, 2026.

University of Washington campus – ANA Minority Fellowship Program announcement

The American Nurses Association (ANA) Minority Fellowship Program (MFP), funded by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 cohort. For over 50 years, this program has prepared nurses to lead in clinical practice, research, education, and health policy — with a specific focus on advancing mental health and substance misuse care for underserved and minority communities.


Two fellowship tracks are available:


Master’s Fellowship: For registered nurses enrolled full-time in an accredited master’s program focused on mental health or substance misuse care. Fellows commit to a two-year fellowship period.


Doctoral Fellowship (DNP or PhD): For behavioral health nurses enrolled full-time in an accredited doctoral program in psychiatric mental health or substance misuse care.


What Fellows Receive:

  • Financial support for advanced nursing education

  • Structured mentorship with experienced behavioral health nurse leaders

  • Leadership development across practice, research, and policy

  • Professional development sessions and the mandatory Summer Intensive Training Institute (ITI)

Eligibility:

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency

  • Full-time enrollment in an accredited nursing program

  • Commitment to advancing mental health and substance misuse care in minority populations

Application materials required: resume/CV, transcripts, proof of enrollment, three professional letters of recommendation, and a personal statement. Application takes approximately 60–90 minutes to complete.
