National Black Nurses Association
During National Nurses Week 2026 (May 6–12), the American Nurses Association (ANA) announced its prestigious 2026 National Award recipients, with multiple National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) members among those honored. The Hall of Fame Award — recognizing nurses for their impact on the health and social history of the United States — was awarded to Debra Toney, PhD, RN, FADLN, FAAN (Nevada Nurses Association). The Mary Mahoney Award, which specifically recognizes significant contributions to racial integration within nursing, also went to NBNA-affiliated nurses. This year's National Nurses Week theme is 'The Power of Nurses.' The awards ceremony will be held June 25, 2026, in Washington, D.C. NBNA calls these recognitions a testament to the extraordinary leadership of Black nurses advancing health equity across the country.
